David Bennett, MMTA President
MMTA President for 2007-2008 is Dr. David Bennett. Bennett is a native of Detroit, Michigan. He was awarded a bachelors degree summa cum laude in music and political science from Albion College. His Master of Music degree in piano performance from Ball State University. Bennett received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Iowa with an emphasis on piano performance and pedagogy. His teachers have included Herbert Stessin, Anthosny Taffs, Pia Sebastiani, Pauline Lindsay, John Simms, and Kenneth Amada. Bennett has taught at Missouri Western State College in St. Joseph, MO, since the fall of 1982. As a member of the Music Department he has taught class piano, private piano, synthesizer techniques, piano pedagogy, and music history. He is currently director of the Honors Program which serves the entire college. He has also served as musical directorDr. Barbara Hamel, Assistant Professor of Music, teaches class and applied piano, piano and organ repertoire, piano pedagogy, and aural skills at Central Methodist University in Fayette, Missouri. She has presented recitals on piano, organ, harpsichord, and also appears frequently as an adjudicator for piano festivals and auditions. Dr. Hamel serves as an accompanist for the Central Methodist University A Cappella Choir, as well as for faculty and guest artist recitals. Articles written by Dr. Hamel addressing many topics in piano pedagogy have been published in Piano Guild Notes, Teaching Music, Assessment Update, and Missouri School Music Magazine. In addition to her teaching responsibilities at CMU, she serves as a staff organist at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Columbia, MO. Dr. Hamel earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Music (emphasis in piano and organ) from Dana College in Blair, NE, and a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In 1999 she graduated with a Ph.D. in Music Education from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Dr. Hamel is a member of MTNA, MMTA, MMAMTA, MENC, National Guild of Piano Teachers, American College of Musicians, and the American Guild of Organists. for the college musicals and operettas and directs the vocal and instrumental performing group, "Western Legacies." As a pianist, Bennett has performed with orchestras, in solo recitals and in chamber ensembles. He frequently performs with members of the Kansas City Symphony and serves as the keyboardist for the St. Joseph Symphony. David Bennett has been as active member of Music Teacher National Association and served as National Chair for the College Artist Competition. He has served the Missouri Music Teachers Association as Vice President, President-Elect, chair of piano, district audition chair, and as a member of the Board of Directors. In 1999 she graduated with a Ph.D. in Music Education from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Dr. Hamel is a member of MTNA, MMTA, MMAMTA, and the American Guild of Organists.

MMTA President for 2005-2006 and now Immediate Past President is Cameron Dibble.
Cameron Dibble received the Bachelor of Music degree from Oberlin Conservatory, where he studied with Professor John Perry. His Masters and Doctoral degrees are from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music, where he studied under Joanne Baker. He studied vocal coaching and accompanying in Austria with Mario Salerno and Jan Meyerowitz. Dibble's various appearances as soloist and collaborative pianist include a piano concerto performance as soloist with the Kansas City Symphony, a solo piano Scholarship Benefit performance for the Kansas City Musical Club, solo piano recitals on a local series, as well as pianist in an ensemble with the local Kansas City Young Audiences chapter for seven years. With nearly thirty years teaching experience, Dibble’s students have won local, regional and national competitions. He recently served as an adjunct assistant professor at the UMKC Conservatory of Music, teaching piano pedagogy. Dibble has held several positions over the years with the Kansas City Music Teachers Association and with the statewide Missouri Music Teachers Association. Dibble has made several forays into musical theatre, working either as musical director or pianist for the Theatre for Young America, the Coterie Theatre, American Heartland Theatre and the Topeka Recreation Commission. Dibble has a large class of students in the UMKC Conservatory of Music’s Community Music and Dance Academy and maintains a position as a church organist.

MMTA President (2003-2004) was Millie Mehnert.
Millie Mehnert received her music degree in piano performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where her teachers were Aileen Minor and Inga Morgan. She is a member of Sigma Alpha Iota Music Fraternity and has served as president of Kansas City Music Teachers Association and president of the Federated Teachers of Music and Arts in Kansas City. Her students have received awards at Kansas State Music Teachers Association Auditions, performed with the Topeka Symphony, and received "Honorable Mention" performance recognition at the National Federation of Music Clubs Centennial Solo Performance Competition held in Chicago on August 15, 1998. Millie chaired the first Music Teachers Association Tri-State Conference in the Midwest in 2003, with Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska. She has served on the Music Teachers National Association Local Associations Committee. She continues her studies and performing under retired music professor Karen Halverhout from the University of Missouri - Kansas City. Contact information:Millie B. MMTA President 2001-2002 was Steven Houser.
Steven Houser is Professor of Music at Lincoln University, in Jefferson
City, Missouri. In addition to being the current Missouri Music Teachers'
Association president, Dr. Houser is the Conductor/Music Director of the
Jefferson City Symphony Orchestra (jeffersoncitysymphony.org).
Dr. Houser, for this year, is interim chair of the Lincoln University Department of Fine Arts and Communications. He is past-president of Mid-Missouri Music Teachers' Association, and past-president of the Capitol City Arts Council. He has performed professionally with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra and in various other ensembles, including performances in summer orchestras in Italy and Austria. In 1995, Steven Houser was honored to be selected a Fulbright Scholar in Egypt. Steven is married to the noted pianist and piano instructor Jan Houser.

William Brown, MMTA Past President (1999-2000)
MMTA Past President (1999-2000)
William Brown was MMTA president 1999-2000. He received his B.M. and Performer's Certificate from Baylor University and his M.Mus. and D.Mus. from Indiana University where he
studied with Menahem Pressler, pianist of the Beaux Arts Trio. He has completed additional study at The Eastman School of Music. Dr. Brown is a
frequent recitalist, clinician, and adjudicator whose students have won awards in state and national competitions. He has served in Chicago as
keyboardist for the Grant Park Orchestra and The Arie Crown Theatre in shows such as A Chorus Line, D'Oyle Carte Opera Company, Timbuktu
with Eartha Kitt, the London Ballet, and The Grand Hotel with Joel Grey. He presently serves as accompanist for the Missouri Music Men. He has
taught at Roosevelt University and the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago and holds memberships in Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Pi Kappa
Lambda, the Music Teachers National Association, and the National Guild of Piano Teachers.
