MMTA Vice-President for Auditions
Fascinating facts about 2000 Convention at Missouri Western:
There were 49 different auditions and competitions over the four days.
Up to 16 different competitions ran on a single day.
Including practice pianos and performance pianos, the convention used approximately 36 pianos. During most of Sunday, almost all of these pianos were in continuous use.
The bill for piano tuning at the convention (just for tuning and emergency repairs immediately before and during convention) was approximately $1200-$1500.
During the convention there were approximately 117 hours of concerts and other performances, and 39 hours of scheduled rehearsals, plus countless hours of individual practicing. All this happened during only four days (96 hours) on the clock.
The convention is truly a mammoth undertaking. Thanks to all of you--competition and audition chairs, adjudicators, and individual teachers--who helped make it happen! A special thanks goes to Rebecca Fulgham, outgoing V.P. of Auditions, who oversaw it all.
I'm looking forward to next year's auditions. If you have any ideas or
suggestions for auditions, please email me.
