MMTA President-Elect
What a warm welcome you have all given me! Having worked with so many of you when I was president of Kansas City MTA, I am well aware of your wonderful support. That support, and friendship, is invaluable as I organize the next two conventions.
Already I am being approached with ideas and volunteers for sessions -- pretty exciting! President Steve Houser has set so much in motion for me, securing Shun-Lin "Sam" Chou to act as my liaison and coordinator from Southwest Missouri State in Springfield. Thanks Steve! And thanks Sam!
While it's a little early to start naming specifics for the 2001 Convention, I can say we'll have a good mix of topics which will reward our ongoing educational needs and opportunities. One new topic under consideration is a business session on long term financial planning for the independent music teacher. A presentation of this type at a recent Kansas Conference proved to be so successful that we arranged to have it repeated in Kansas City. I did attend many of the sessions we had at our St. Joseph Convention -- so many good ones. Steve Houser who worked with the Department of Music at Missouri Western really did a great job. I am certainly open to additional ideas from you. It is very important that these classes which are designed for you be of interest to you.
What did you find of particular interest at the 2000 Convention that could be expanded upon? What fresh ideas can you suggest? Could you present a session? Do take my e-mail and/or snail mail addresses seriously at the conclusion of this article and know that I look forward to hearing from the membership.
Finally, thanks for the opportunity to serve MMTA as President-Elect. I do look forward to meeting many, many more of you, and to the guidance and leadership from all members which will give me direction. Please introduce yourself to me at any given opportunity.
Wishing you many beautiful hours of music in 2001,
Millie Mehnert, NCTM
