    Minutes - General Business Meeting

    November 10, 2000

    MMTA President William Brown called the meeting to order at 1:15 p.m. in the Thompson E. Potter Fine Arts Center Theater on the campus of Missouri Western State College, St. Joseph, Missouri.

    Special thanks were extended to the faculty and staff of MWSC and to the music department for their support and cooperation in hosting our 93rd annual convention. The planning and preparation by Jerry Anderson, David Bennett, and Brent Hugh are especially appreciated.

    Dr. Brown introduced Dr. James Roever, who welcomed MMTA and who reminded members of their importance in encouraging students to continue studying at the collegiate level and onward. Dr. Brown thanked Schmitt Music for their support and the use of their pianos, and Gary Jarrett for tuning the eleven performance pianos.

    Minutes: Moved, seconded, and passed (MSP) to accept the minutes as printed in the Winter 2000 NOTES. Treasurer's Report: MSP to accept the report as presented by Lynda Quistorff.

    Nominating Committee Report: Chair Jan Houser presented the following slate of officers: President: Steven Houser; Vice President for Auditions: Brent Hugh; Vice President for Publications: Virginia Schilb; Vice President for Local Associations: Kathy Miller; Treasurer: Barbara Hamel; Secretary: Ginger Schneider and President-Elect: Millie Mehnert. MSP to accept the slate.

    The winner in the Collegiate category for student composition, "String Quartet." by Marc-Andre Bougie was performed.

    John Atkins, the MMTA Commissioned Composer, was introduced. "Striking Resemblance," a piece for various ringing percussion instruments by a solo performer accompanied by electronic sounds, was then performed by Christopher Akins, son of the composer.

    Steven Houser presented a plaque to William Brown in appreciation of his service to MMTA as president and as an exemplary member.

    The meeting was adjourned at 2:45 p.m.
