    MMTA President Elect

I am pleased to announce Missouri Western State College will host the 2000 MMTA State Convention. The dates are November 9, 10, 11, and 12. Thank you Missouri Western students, faculty, administration, for consenting to be the host school. The community of St. Joseph and the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce are also to be commended for expressing their support and participation in the convention. I hope to have many musical announcements concerning the 2000 convention in the next NOTES. This last sentence reminds me to invite you to participate, not only by your attendance, but by suggesting sessions, presenters, and masterclass teachers for this convention. Please contact me immediately, if you have a favorite person, or if you would like to present a session. I will contact the appropriate chairperson and give that person your suggestion.

Many, many appreciative comments have been directed toward William Brown, Southwest Baptist University, and the Bolivar community for hosting the 1999 MMTA State Convention. The convention was an excellent opportunity to hear:

    1. The student performers---obviously the result of excellent Missouri teaching.
    2. The sessions---I attended the Harry Morrison, Richard Cass, Gail Smith, Wiff Rudd, Richard Weirich, Donald Walker, Janice Saffir, and Jane Magrath sessions and presentations. These were really tremendous learning opportunities.
    3. The banquet---SBU always has such good food. The SBU singers were WONDERFUL.

I need to mention, as if most of you did not already know, many of your member friends work very, very hard to organize and coordinate these yearly convention activities. When you have the opportunity to communicate with these individuals, please thank them. Again, thank you SBU for sharing your facilities, talented faculty and student assistance for our convention. So until the next NOTES issue, keep sharing your love of music through your students and through your performances.
