MMTA Vice-President for Auditions
As we begin plans for the 2000 Student Auditions, I am filled with excitement and anticipation about our next convention in St. Joseph. Thank you Missouri Western for hosting us!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Richard Bobo for his work last year as MTNA Collegiate Auditions Chairman. Richard is retiring this year and moving out of state to be with his family. Happy retirement, Richard!
Please make a point, at the convention, to welcome Thomas Stein from UMKC, who will replace Richard for the next convention. I look forward to working with him.
Your "auditions team" - Anne Nagle, Juanita Becker, Sam Chou, Renee Waters, Sherrie Troxel, Tom Stein, and myself - are constantly striving to improve and streamline the auditions process. Please make note of one major change as you begin selecting repertoire for your students. To avoid future confusion about composer classifications, we are discontinuing the MMTA Composer Classification List. For all future competitions, please use the MTNA list found in the June/July issue of AMT.
I would also like to restate our policy concerning requests for changes to
the auditions schedule. If a student has a conflict due to religious reasons with the dates for the District Auditions, please contact your district chairman. The districts will make every effort to accomodate requests for that reason. There will be no changes allowed to the State Auditions date, for any reason. Please know what a huge job your auditions chairs have in scheduling all the students at the state level. It makes their job very difficult when requests are made for special time considerations. Thank you for your courtesy and understanding with this process.
I look forward to seeing you in St. Joseph this fall. As usual, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about the upcoming Auditions season.
