Minutes of the MMTA Executive Committee
January 23, 2000
MMTA President William Brown called the meeting to order at 2:30 p.m. in his home in Bolivar, Missouri. Present were President-elect Steven Houser, Vice President Auditions Rebecca Fulgham, Vice President Local Associations Kathy Miller, Vice President Publications Virginia Schilb, Treasurer Lynda Quistorff, Secretary Ginger Schneider, and Executive Secretary Carol Borgstadt.
It was moved, seconded, and passed (MSP) to accept the minutes from the November 11, 1999, meeting as read by Ginger Schneider, and also the treasurer's report as given by Lynda Quistorff.
PRESIDENT'S REPORT:
President Brown asked that members attending the national convention in Minneapolis try to fill requests for monitors. Our state raffle prize for national convention will be "Fortune," a special Beanie bear donated by the Kansas City Royals.
The possibility of a combined convention with Kansas and Nebraska (with separate state auditions) for the fall of 2002 or 2003 in Kansas City was discussed.
DIVISION MEETING REPORT:
Certification: A new plan has been approved by the MTNA Board of Directors: everyone will take a written exam; a video will not be required; 300 accumulated hours of teaching experience is required.
MTNA Competition Fees: were reconfirmed.
MTNA Composition Entry Fee proposal: Entry fees are proposed as follows: $15 elementary; $25 junior high; $35 high school; $45 collegiate; and a $10 teacher fee. The teacher fee would be waived if students are enrolled in performance as well as in composition competition.
The state would receive a 50% rebate.
Membership: MTNA has entered into an agreement with a marketing firm to increase membership.
MTNA Teacher of the Year: The 2000 MTNA Teacher of the Year is from Hawaii. MTNA pays airfare and convention fees. MMTA does not have an active Teacher of the Year program.
Pedagogy Award: The Frances Clark Foundation has agreed to present an annual pedagogy award at the national convention. Criteria will be announced.
Nominating Committee report: Janice Wenger has been named Division President-Elect. Missouri will host the 2002 Division Meeting. President Brown will research what our responsibilities will be.
PRESIDENT-ELECT: Steven Houser
The 2000 MMTA convention will be held November 9 - 12 in St. Joseph at Missouri Western. The convention artist is Ann Schein. MSP TO RAISE THE MMTA CONVENTION ARTIST FEE FROM $1750 TO $2000 PLUS MEALS AND LODGING BEGINNING WITH THE 2000 CONVENTION.
VICE PRESIDENT OF AUDITIONS: Rebecca Fulgham.
The following changes in fee policy were discussed and voted upon: MSP TO ALLOW THE VP AUDITIONS (1) TO PR0-RATE MTNA JUDGES' FEES FROM A MINIMUM OF $100 TO A MAXIMUM OF $150, PLUS PAYMENT OF MILEAGE, LODGING, AND MEALS. (2) TO PAY MILEAGE AND MEALS FOR ALL NON-MEMBER MMTA AUDITION JUDGES. The audition chair will contact the membership about volunteering at the registration desk at convention. The travel grant letter will be sent directly to the treasurer from the audition chair. Guidelines for judges will be clarified. Members are encouraged to contact the Vice President Auditions about any suggestions or problems concerning auditions.
MSP TO DISCONTINUE THE MMTA REPERTOIRE LIST AND USE THE MTNA REPERTOIRE LIST FOR MMTA AUDITIONS.
VICE PRESIDENT OF PUBLICATIONS: Virginia Schilb.
President Brown will take brochures soliciting ads for NOTES to the national convention. The possibility of putting NOTES on our website will be researched.
VICE PRESIDENT OF LOCAL ASSOCIATIONS: Kathy Miller.
Local Association grants will be voted on at the Spring Board Meeting.
THEORY CHAIR: Sherrie Troxel.
MSP TO ACCEPT THE THEORY PROJECT REVISIONS AND CLARIFICATIONS AS PRESENTED BY REBECCA FULGHAM FOR SHERRIE TROXEL.
EXECUTIVE SECRETARY: Carol Borgstadt.
There are currently 447 MMTA members, plus the members of the Petite Artists of Springfield. MSP MMTA WILL PAY FOR THREE (3) MONTHS OF E-MAIL SERVICE FOR THE EXECUTIVE SECRETARY.
Members will be notified of the date for the Spring Board meeting to be held in March at the home of Steven Houser. The meeting was adjourned at 4:30 PM.
