2009 Jefferson Symphony Young Artists Competition

Applications for the 46th Jefferson Symphony Young Artists Competition (2009, for pianists) are now available. Read about this exciting international competition and download an application at www.jeffersonsymphonyorchestra.org/yac. The competition is open to pianists born after December 31, 1984.Music teachers, please forward this e-mail to your best advanced students so that they may apply!

AWARDS
First Place
$5,000 college scholarship (eligibility requirements)
$2,000 cash award
$1,500 scholarship to Rocky Ridge Music Center in Estes Park, CO, in summer 2009
Recital performance evening of competition, January 10, 2009, in Denver area
30-minute solo recital (music of winner's choice) at black-tie fundraiser on March 21, 2009 in Denver area
Performance as soloist with the Jefferson Symphony Orchestra in Golden, CO (near Denver) on March 22, 2009

Second Place
$1,500 cash award
Recital performance evening of competition, January 10, 2009, in Denver area

Third Place
$1,000 cash award
Recital performance evening of competition, January 10, 2009, in Denver area

IMPORTANT DATES
Tuesday, September 30, 2008 - Postmark deadline for application, $50 fee and CD
Saturday, January 10, 2009 - Live competition for 12 finalists takes place near Denver
Saturday, March 21, 2009 - First place winner gives 30-minute solo recital in Golden, CO (near Denver)
Sunday, March 22, 2009 - First place winner performs with the 95-member Jefferson Symphony in Golden RECENT FIRST PLACE WINNERS (complete list of winners since 1959 available on website)

2008 Instrumental Competition - Kyung-Jun Kim, 20, a second-year student at the Yale University School of Music, playing Prokofiev Violin concerto No. 2 in g minor

2007 Piano Competition - Yoonjung Han, 22, a senior at the Curtis Institute, playing Liszt Piano Concerto No. 1 in E-flat Major

2006 Instrumental Competition - Alexey Gorokholinskiy, 21, a junior at the Juilliard School, playing Copland Concerto for Clarinet and Strings with Harp and Piano

2005 Piano Competition - Anna Polusmiak, 21, a senior at Northern Kentucky University, playing Prokofiev Piano Concerto No. 2 in g minor, Opus 16
