Colleges/universities invited to participate in MTNA's StAR program
Thursday, February 22, 2007
The following message came from MTNA executive director Gary Ingle:
Your school is invited to participate in Music Teachers National Association s Student Achievement Recognition (StAR) Award program. Now in its eighth year, the StAR program provides each recipient with a free one-year active MTNA membership.
All you need to do is select a deserving graduating student, either undergraduate or graduate, who plans to teach in an independent or collegiate studio and present the award on behalf of MTNA at the appropriate spring awards event at your school. The student should be selected on the basis of excellence, for example, academic achievement, successful teaching experience and/or demonstrated leadership abilities, without regard to gender, race, nationality, religion, age, disability, sexual orientation or financial need and should not have received the award before.
Everything you need to make the StAR Award presentation and activate the recipient s membership is available online at www.mtna.org/star2007.html. Once you have submitted the online nomination form, you will have access to an Award Script and a Certificate. Please submit the nomination form no later than June 15, 2007.
StAR Award nominees are eligible to apply for MTNA's Studio Teacher Fellowship, which comes with a $3,000 award to assist recent graduates with the establishment of a music studio. StAR Award nominees are eligible to apply for the fellowship only if the online nomination form is submitted no later than June 15, 2007. Applying for the fellowship is the first step in a two-part selection process. Finalists will be chosen from this pool of applicants, and further information about their future plans will be requested.
We look forward to welcoming these new music teachers into MTNA. Their membership will help ease their transition from student teacher to music professional through our opportunities for networking and ongoing education. In addition, MTNA can offer professional support as these StAR recipients establish their first studios.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact MTNA at (888) 512-5278 or mtnanet@mtna.org.
Sincerely,
Gary L. Ingle
Executive Director
