Chords of Discovery Missouri Music Teachers Association Student Composition Competition 2005 Guidelines Application and Composition Postmark Deadline: May 30, 2005 Send to Jennifer Linn, MMTA Composition Chair 15617 Highcroft Dr., Chesterfield, MO 63017 (636) 728 -1375 Students in grades kindergarten through grade 12 in school year 2004-2005 may enter the following grade categories: $12.00 Elementary K - 1 - 2 Kindergarten, first grade and second grade $12.00 Elementary 3 - 4 Third grade and fourth grade $16.00 Junior 5 -6 Fifth grade and sixth grade $16.00 Junior 7 - 8 Seventh grade and eighth grade $20.00 Senior 9 - 10 Ninth grade and tenth grade $20.00 Senior 11 - 12 Eleventh grade and twelfth grade Winners: Winners pictures will be published in the Fall Issue of NOTES magazine. Winners in each category will receive trophies. Students earning Runners Up, Honorable Mentions and I ratings will receive medals. Certificates, judges sheets and recordings will be sent to the teachers after adjudication. Eligibility: Teachers may enter students in Grades K through 12 by sending the completed Chords of Discovery application form, 2 copies of the student’s notated composition (do not send the original) and the entry fee for each composition to Composition Chair Jennifer Linn by May 30, 2005. Student compositions may be either hand written by the student or computer notated by the student. One tape recording or compact disc recording must be submitted with each composition entry. Compositions and recordings should be labeled neatly with the Title and Grade Category (Example: "Night Song" Elem 2 or "Blue Jeans" Jr. 5). All students of MMTA members are eligible. Non MMTA members may enter students by paying an additional $15 teacher entry fee. No copyrighted themes may be used for arrangements. Songs with lyrics must either be original or a letter of permission from the author must be included with the entry form.
